The Edgewater Park School District is proud to announce that Michael Melvin will return to the district as the next Principal of Ridgway Middle School, effective July 1, 2025.
Mr. Melvin is a familiar face in the Edgewater Park community, having taught eighth-grade mathematics and science at Ridgway Middle School from 2012 to 2019. During his time as a teacher, he also co-directed the Ridgway Stagecrafters Drama Club and was an active member of the PBSIS (Positive Behavior Support in Schools) committee. His dedication to his students and the school community was recognized when he was named Ridgway Teacher of the Year for the 2017–2018 school year.
After earning his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University, Mr. Melvin transitioned to the Bordentown Regional School District in 2019. There, he served as Supervisor of Mathematics for grades 6–12, overseeing curriculum, programming, and staffing while also coordinating district-wide testing and professional development. In 2021, he took on the role of Assistant Principal at Bordentown Regional High School, where he managed grades 9 and 11 and served as the district’s School Safety Specialist.
“It is an honor to return to the Edgewater Park School District as the Principal of Ridgway Middle School,” said Mr. Melvin. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to a school and community that have always held a special place in my heart. I’m excited to bring the knowledge and experience I’ve gained in Bordentown to support Ridgway Middle School and adapt my approach to meet the needs of our students and staff.”
Known for his commitment to relationship-building and community engagement, Mr. Melvin added, “What makes Edgewater Park truly special are the people—the dedicated staff, supportive families, and incredible students. It’s the strong relationships and sense of community that set this district apart and make it such a meaningful place to learn, lead, and grow.”
Looking to the future, Mr. Melvin shared, “To the families, students, staff, and community members of Edgewater Park, I look forward to building strong relationships together and giving my all to ensure that Ridgway Middle School continues to be a place where every student feels supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed.”
Mr. Melvin lives with his wife of seven years, Nicole, an elementary special education teacher. Together, they have two daughters, ages four and two, and their dog, Grover. Outside of school, he is an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports teams and a passionate supporter of the fine and performing arts, with experience as a drummer, singer, actor, and director.
The Edgewater Park School District warmly welcomes Mr. Melvin back and looks forward to the positive impact of his leadership at Ridgway Middle School.
